To get in some kilometres, our morning routine today excluded breakfast as we decided to have that at the market in Juli. And so we had packed and were ready to cycle at 7:30 AM and arrived in Juli some time later. We had one of those delicious vegetable–fruit smoothies and some cereal breakfast cake to boost our vitamin and fibre levels. With our energy up, we cycled further up the slopes with great views of Lake Titicaca to our left. We cycled on at a good pace for quite a while, until we reached Pomata, where we had some lunch at the street market. The boys had some very good fried Trucha, whereas I prepared myself some carrots to snack on and ate the fresh bread we had bought at the market in Juli and ate it with avocado and fried cheese (finally a different protein source than fried eggs or lentils). We had some great conversation with the kind and welcoming Peruvians sitting at the table with us. They were very enthusiastic about our trip and made lunch even more enjoyable than it already was.
With our delicious lunches in our stomachs, we cycled on until shortly before Yunguyo, where we found a beautiful spot to camp at the beach. We had cycled so well that we arrived shortly after 2 PM and had plenty of time on our hands in the afternoon. A rarity for us. After setting up the tent, we wanted to relax in the sun, but of course, after only 10 minutes heavy clouds covered the sun and didn’t disappear until somewhere in the night. With the warmth of the sun gone, it was quite chilly and Göran went to collect some firewood for a nice warming bonfire at the beach. Something we really needed after an ice-cold wash in the lake.
We ate our delicious dinner of spaghetti with creamy mushroom sauce next to the fire and went to bed early, excited by the thought that we would be crossing the border to Bolivia the next day.
