Restdays in Cusco

There’s not much to tell for those days in Cusco, not for me at least. While the men had the chance to explore the numerous sites around the city and go on day trips, I lay in bed with a fever and dutifully taking my antibiotics. On the 9th I slept pretty much the entire day. The men were sweet enough to make soup for breakfast, which seemed to be the only thing I could stomach. The 10th looked pretty much the same, only that I felt a bit better in the evening and cooked a chickpea curry for us for dinner. While I was sleeping, Jacques visited Saqsayhuaman and Göran worked on his laptop and went into town.

On the 11th Jacques went on a day trip to Palcoyo while Göran went into the countryside surrounding Cusco to look at some temples and enjoy nature. Feeling a bit better, I went to the market to buy the groceries for dinner that day and lunch the next day. Although I wasn’t feeling all that great yet, the decision had been sort of made to continue cycling the next day, although I was out of breath after one set of stairs. Great decision to continue cycling…

Because Göran went out into town I was finally able to binge watch the last episodes of the show I had been watching at home on his laptop. That felt like a small, comforting piece of home 🙂

In the evening Jacques and I cooked and we met two lovely French girls from Normandie whom I’ll hopefully stay in touch with. They were so kind and a great opportunity to practice my French as well (although I should probably be more concerned about learning/practicing Spanish here). We had dinner together with a really nice girl from Dresden, called Cecilia, who had just arrived in Cusco but Göran and I got along with very well. After dinner we went up on the roof terrace to chat, while she did henna tattoos on Göran and me. It was a lovely evening! I am sad though, that because I’m sick so often I get less opportunities to explore cities, nature and cultural sites than the men do. You’d think that we have plenty of time and a day or two more couldn’t do any harm. But after too many days in the city some of us are very eager to get on the bike again which has already led to friction in the group on multiple occasions.
